Authorities in Eastern Cape are counting the cost after a fire broke out at the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality offices in Komani on Friday night.
Provincial police spokesperson Tembinkosi Kinana says on-duty officers spotted smoke billowing from the building while on patrol in the area.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that SAPS members were patrolling the area around the municipal building when they notice smoke coming out the building.
“As they went to investigate what was happening they indeed found the offices and municipal hall on fire,” says Kinana.

Kinana says firefighters were immediately called to extinguish the blaze and extensive damage was seen once they managed to stop the blaze.
“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined at this stage. However as the police we have opened an inquiry document for investigation.”
Kinana adds that no injuries were reported and police have not made any arrests yet.
