The African National Congress (ANC) branch in eThekwini has called on the party to reinstate suspended secretary-general Ace Magashule.
The branch of the party held a press briefing in Durban on Sunday.
The call comes as the party is concluding its three-day virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Monday.
"As the branches of the ANC in eThekwini region, we are calling for the reinstatement of the secretary-general to the office with immediate effect,” said ANC councillor and organiser in eThekwini Ntando Khuzwayo.
"To suspend any of the ANC officials requires a process but doing it in a factional manner will have the potential of dividing the organisation.”
Khuzwayo also sounded a warning about the what they believe to be the looming arrest of former president Jacob Zuma.
"We have learnt of the planned arrest of the former head of state and former commander of the underground army, Jacob Zuma.
"Such looming arrest by democratic state for refusal to appear before a conflicted judge will be faced with resistance. We have begun to mobilize all sectors of the society, and should the need arise, we will approach our African friends to assist us to deal with the second wave of apartheid approach in a democratic state.
"For the sake of peace, hands off president Jacob Zuma."
