Farm owner wrongfully accused of farmworker's murder

A Krugersdorp farm owner has been wrongfully accused of killing one of the workers on his farm near Krugersdorp at the weekend.

Police initially reported that the farm owner shot and killed the worker and then handed himself over at a local police station.
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters, says an internal probe is currently underway to determine how the police made the mistake.

"That is a matter we are investigating internally. It appears initially that it is a miss-communication between our members."
Peters says a security officer has handed himself over to the police.

"The 46-year old suspect, now confirmed as a security officer, appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court on Monday after he had handed himself over to Tarlton Police in connection with the shooting incident where a 43-year old farmworker was killed."
According to reports the farm worker allegedly stole a tractor, but police have not been able to confirm this.
