Father sentenced to 23 years for raping daughter
The Roodepoort Magistrate's Court has sentenced a 53-year-old father to 23 years behind bars after be pleaded guilty to raping and sexually assaulting his daughter.
The daughter was 7 years old when the rapes began in 2010.
The accused was married to the mother of the child until 2019.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says she groomed the child from a young age using the bible.
"She informed her mother about her ordeal and a few months after attending psychosocial sessions, she reported the matter to the police,” says Mjonondwane.
He was sentenced to 18 years for rape and five years for sexual assault.
