Festive road fatalities will exceed Covid-19 deaths - Mbalula
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has reiterated his warning to motorists not to drive recklessly or under the influence of alcohol during the festive season.

He was at Maponya Mall in Soweto where he launched the 'Hoot for Safety' campaign aimed at reducing reckless driving.
"Everyone we love perishes because of road accidents in our country. The total number of accidents that occur only during the festive season are double what Covid-19 can produce in one year. Just now in December, more than 1000 people perish on our roads.

"I want to give a stern warning for those who will be undermining the law, we have got an appointment with you. You will be arrested, and you will not be released. And if you drive an unroadworthy vehicle, it will be impounded. Those police officers who will also undermine our work will be arrested."
