Fifty three people arrested in JHB

Fifty-three people were arrested in Johannesburg over the weekend during crime combating operations, police said on Sunday.

"The suspects were arrested by JHB Central Sector Policing members for various offences during crime combating operations that were conducted from Friday October 18 and ended this morning [Sunday] October 20," Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said in a statement.
The people were arrested around the Johannesburg CBD. Four were arrested for common robbery, two for attempted car theft, four for possession of suspected stolen property, one for perjury, two for fraud, four for possession of dagga, and 15 for shoplifting.
"The rest of the suspects were arrested for committing other crimes including common assault, possession of counterfeit DVDs, theft, and drinking and driving."
Mbele said most of the suspects would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
