Emergency services in Johannesburg say a fire has destroyed at least 50 shacks in Marshaltown.
The blaze broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.
The fire left nearly 200 people displaced while one patient was treated for smoke inhalation.
“There was one parient who was treated for smoke inhalation, unfortunately the patient refused transportation to the nearest health facility," says emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.
"We encourage our residents to continue to look after all heating devices which might cause fire at home, don’t leave them unattended so that we can be able to prevent fire incidents during this period."
A team has been deployed to assist with disaster management relief efforts.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
