Numerous families have been left homeless after a fire ripped through the George Goch informal settlement in Johannesburg.
The blaze, which affected some 80 shacks, broke out on Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson for Johannesburg emergency services Robert Mulaudzi says disaster management officials were on scene to assist the residents.
"Multiple shacks on fire were reported in George Goch. About 80 shacks have been affected by the fire and at this stage, no injuries have been reported.
“We encourage the residents, especially in the informal residents not to leave any heating device unattended to avoid fire incidents like this one.”
The cause of the fire is not known.
