First summer thunderstorms to bless Heritage Day

The South African Weather Service predicts the first real summer rain to fall on Tuesday when South Africans celebrate Heritage Day.

It is expected to also bring some much-needed relief from the current Spring temperatures that have seen the mercury soaring above 30 degree celsius in some places. 


Forecaster Bransby Bulo says the first possibility of rain will be on Monday.

"In terms of rain, we are expecting cloudy conditions and thundershowers over Gauteng from Monday, into Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a chance of rain on Tuesday, a small chance on Monday."

Until then, the sunny conditions will remain over Gauteng. 


"We are expecting fine weather to dominate with high temperatures in Gauteng, maximum temperatures to reign between 22 and 34 this week."
