Five lions roaming around Mpumalanga town
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The Kruger National Park has confirmed on Thursday that five lions have
escaped and were roaming around at a village in Mpumalanga.
“The Kruger National Park can confirm there have been positive sighting of the lions that have gone out of the Kruger National Park near Marloth Park,” says spokesperson Isaac Phaahla.
He says the rainy weather may have gotten the lions stuck on the wrong side of a river.
“We believe that the animals must have been traversing between the town and the park while the river was low and were caught on the wrong side of the fence after the heavy rains increased the water levels.”
According to Phaahla there are operations in place to capture and return the lions to the park.
“Our veterinary services, ranger services and Mpumalanga Tourism & Parks Agency officials are busy accessing the situation and will relocate the animals at the earliest opportunity.”
