Five men handed life imprisonment for murder of Limpopo mayor

The Polokwane High Court in Limpopo has handed down life imprisonment against five men convicted of the murder of Collins Chabane Municipality mayor, Moses Maluleke today.

Shumani Nemadodzi (48), Avhatakali Isaac Mudau (39), Wiseman Baloyi (37), Tshianeo Munyai (32) and Pfunzo Lidzebe (33) were also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each for attempted murder.
Deputy judge president Matsaro Semenya further sentenced the accused to 15 years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery as well as 5 years for possession of unlawful firearm.
"We are very pleased with the outcome of the court, we hope that the sentence will be deterrent to other criminals out there.
"We have got the life imprisonment for the murder of mayor of Collins Chabane and the accused were ordered not to posses firearms," says the spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
Mayor Maluleke was killed at his homestead in Xikundu village in Malamulele in the evening of 21 July 2022.
The accused gained access to the mayor's house and shot him together with his 18-year-old son, Ntokoto.
Only cellphone was taken.
His son survived the gun shot and is now living with a bullet on his body which cannot be removed according to the court.
