Updated | By Cliff Shiko
A North West police officer has appeared for fraud and defeating the ends of justice after allegedly stealing a murder docket implicating a close friend.
Seargent Ina van der Westhuizen, who is stationed at the Hartbeesfontein police station, was arrested on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old allegedly called a former reservist to the police station last Thursday, gave him a bag and told him not to open it until the accused collected it.
However, the former reservist decided to open the bag and discovered that there was a murder docket inside.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said the former reservist blew the whistle and told the detective commander.
The suspect appeared in the Hartbeesfontein Magistrate's Court and was released on R2000 bail.
The case has been postponed to 28 May.
