The police's Thivhulawi Tshilati says they were tipped off that the young women were being kept as sex slaves.

He says four of the girls are from Mpumalanga and one from Springs.

"The police were patrolling the CBD when they received an anonymous tip off about young girls being held in a house. The house owner, a Nigerian man couldn't give satisfactory reasons to why these young girls where in his house," Tshilati says.

He says police searched the house and discovered pornographic material.

"Upon searching the house, a lot of pornographic material was found. The man was also searched and police found drugs in his pockets."

Tshilate says the man has been charged with human trafficking, possession of drugs and pornographic material.

"The suspect was out on bail. He is facing charges of kidnapping and rape. He has since been arrested and is being detained at the Springs police station," he says.

He is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The teenagers have been taken to Parklands Hospital for medical examination and are now at a safe house.
