Flooding in parts of SA

Various low lying areas have been flooded with some damage caused to vehicles and infrastructure following heavy rain over the past couple of days.

The flood warning by the South African Weather Service remains in place as widespread showers are expected in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and parts of Gauteng on Wednesday.

 

"Heavy rain leading to localized flooding is expected in the morning on the northern areas of Gauteng as well as the northern parts of Mpumalanga and along the coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal," the Weather Service says.


In the Tshwane area emergency personel attended to at least three incidents where vehicles got washed away by floodwaters.


Accoring to the Tswhane EMS' Johan Pieterse they also attended to various houses that were flooded in GaRankuwa.


"People start to panic when they see water but the first thing you should do is to remain calm," he says.

 

In the North West, roads have been temporarily closed due to flooding while some farmers are stuck after dirt roads flooded.

 

The North West department of community safety and transport's Thabo Sematle says the flooding is extreme in some parts.
