This was while the plane was being prepared for take off to Johannesburg and passengers were already in their seats.

FlySafair spokesperson Kirby Gordon says the foetus was found upon final inspection of the waste management system.

"Our flights had boarded and preparations were being made for departure - one of the standard preparations is the preparations of the waste management system on the aircraft - and during the draining of this waste management system one of our technicians came across what appeared to be a human foetus from the exit point of the system."
