Ford drivers speak of unease

Ford drivers have spoken of their unease, since the much publicised recall of the Ford Kuga 1.6 SUV.

The company announced a safety recall of the model, following more than 30 incidents where the car burst into flames.

The fear and anxiety, however, is not limited to Kuga drivers.

Car expert Bernard Hellberg says there is a perception that Ford has been less than honest with consumers and this has done enormous damage to the brand.

"It doesn't take you a year - since the first incident - and 47 burning engines later to determine that there is a major problem. It is a very risky thing for them to be acting this way, because it does jeopardise all kinds of things, not only the vehicles that Ford Kuga owners drive," says Hellberg.
