Former Midvaal mayor's party officially registered with IEC

Bongani Baloyi's political party, Xiluva, has officially been registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) taking it a step closer to being on the ballot paper for the 2024 elections.
The former Midvaal mayor formed his party in March after his resignation as ActionSA’s Gauteng provincial leader.
In January last year, Baloyi joined ActionSA after terminating his membership as a member of the DA in December 2021.
He was a member of the country’s official opposition party for 14 years.
Baloyi says the party will appear on the ballot paper in 2024, providing a real alternative, led by a capable new breed of ethical leaders.
"We undertake to write a new chapter in the book of our beloved country by introducing and practising a different kind of politics underpinned by our Ubuntu ideology, where meritocracy and stability are embedded in our norms and practices," says Baloyi.
Baloyi says the party will launch its foundational documents on 19 July.
"We have set our goals on registering in all Universities and Tvet colleges so we can contest student representative elections, collecting the requisite signatures from registered voters so we can meet the IEC threshold to contest all provinces in 2024.
“Xiluva, encourages South Africans who believe in what we believe in, to join us as we embark on a journey of self-liberation and building a country that is firmly anchored on Ubuntu," he adds.
