The NPA’s Investigation Directorate has confirmed that a former minister will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Several reports have named the former minister as Mosebenzi Zwane, who served as minister of mineral resources under former president Jacob Zuma.
He is still an ANC MP and heads up Parliament’s transport committee.
“The accused is expected to appear on charges of fraud, theft as well as money laundering and corruption,” says the ID’s spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka.

The charges relate to the Vrede diary farm scandal, which saw millions of rands meant to empower local farmers end up in the pockets of the Gupta brothers. Zwane was Free State Agriculture MEC at the time of the deal.
The commission of inquiry into state capture recommended a criminal investigation into Zwane, and former Free State premier Ace Magashule, in relation to the Vrede scandal.
