Former Mpumalanga cop kills in-laws, turns gun on himself
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Mpumalanga police are investigating the deaths of three people after a former colleague shot and killed three of his in-laws in Standerton at the weekend.
The 37-year-old man’s wife was also wounded during the altercation and she is fighting for her life in hospital.
He was apparently involved in an argument with his wife in the company of his in-laws at his house when he opened fire on her two sisters and brother.
Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says the former policeman turned the gun on himself and was certified dead by paramedics.
"Police have opened a case of three counts of murder, attempted murder, and inquest (following the death of the man). Further details revealed that the man was a former police constable and the firearm was his personal licensed firearm.
“The motive for the incident suggests that it could be domestic-related. However, the matter is being investigated by the police."
