Probe into deaths of 2 prisoners in Kimberley

Two inmates at Kimberley's Tswelopele Correctional Centre in the Northern Cape have died following an alleged altercation with prison officials.
The incident occurred on Sunday.
Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says three inmates allegedly attacked an official with padlocks.
The other officials attempted to defuse the situation, which resulted in a scuffle between prisoners and prison orderlies.
Three inmates were injured.
Nxumalo says two prisoners died, while one remains in hospital for extended medical supervision.
Nxumalo says the police and the Judicial Inspection for Correctional Services were informed of the incident and additional officials were deployed to the prison to bring the situation under control.
The department has since launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding the deaths.
