Former top cop Piet Byleveld's health fast deteriorating - wife
The wife of former top cop Piet Byleveld says the family is taking it hour by hour.
Byleveld is in a critical condition in a hospital in Roodepoort after he had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in March.
His wife Elize says he can no longer communicate or recognise those around him.
"They've stopped all treatment. They do not monitor any of his vital signs as there's no use. He's in a very deep sleep. He can no longer open his eyes or communicate. It's only a matter of time now," his wife Elize told Jacaranda FM News.
The acclaimed detective also has a double lung infection.
He had been admitted to hospital last week and was scheduled to undergo further chemotherapy next week.
