Foundation confirms Zuma in Russia for medical treatment

The Jacob Zuma Foundation has confirmed that former president Zuma is in Russia for medical treatment.

Zuma hit the headlines again on Thursday when the Constitutional Court denied the Department of Correctional Services’ application for leave to appeal court ruling against his release on medical parole.
The court dismissed Zuma’s application paving the way for his return to jail.
Spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi refuted claims that Zuma left the country secretly.
"The JGZ Foundation has noted the media reports and speculations about the recent trip of our patron to the Republic of Russia.
"The foundation confirms that H.E President Zuma travelled to Russia last week for health reasons, and he will be returning to the country once his doctors have completed their treatment,” he added
"Although the trip was private, it was not a secret, as incorrectly suggested. President Zuma and his team travelled on a commercial flight full of passengers. The foundation wishes its patron good health and a safe return home whenever the doctors release him."
The apex court found that his release on medical parole by former Correctional Services boss Arthur Fraser was illegal.
Zuma, 80, had been handed a 15-month term in June 2021 for contempt of court, a move that triggered deadly unrest.
