The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) released its first quarter Political Party Funding Disclosure Report for 2023/2024 on Thursday.

The report covers the period from 1 April to 30 June 2023.

IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela said the DA, ANC, ActionSA and Build One SA declared a total of R58 million.

Bapela said the more than R1.3 million which declared by BOSA was done so at a later stage.

"The highest declared donation was from the DA at R 22 901 161.09. The second highest declaration was made by the ANC, which is R 20 000 000. ActionSA made the third highest declaration of R 12 164 160.00.

"Build One SA, a newly registered political party, made a declaration of R 2 000 000 plus a late declaration of R 1 300 000."

Bapela said the bulk of the DA’s donation came from an entity called Fynbos Ekwiteit.

"The entity has over the last two financial years made significant donations to the same party contributing R15 000 000."

The ANC received donations from the Batho Batho Trust and Chancellor Trust.

"R15 million was donated by Batho Batho Trust while R5 million was donated from Chancellor House," added Bapela.

At least 60% of Action SA's donation was received from Victoria Freudenheim, who has previously made "significant donations to the party".

Freudenheim donated R7.2 million to Action SA.
