The official unveiling ceremony of Brandfort to Winnie Mandela has had
to be postponed for a second time.

The town’s new name was supposed to have been officially unveiled at a ceremony on Sunday.
The Free State government intended to open it on the same day as the late struggle icon’s birthday on Sunday when she would have turned 85-years-old.
“The event of the unveiling officially of by the premier of the remaining of Brandfort town to Winne Mandela Town has been postponed. We will provide the necessary details at a later stage in regard to the date and time for when the unveiling will happen,” says the Free State premier‘s spokesperson Sello Pietersen.
The late struggle stalwart was banished to the sprawling town of Brandfort in 1977 and the house she lived in has been restored and converted to a museum in her honour.
Pietersen says a number of issues raised by the community need to be addressed first.
“It not out of our own will doing or anyone else but because of a number of issues that have to be attended to by our government. We commit ourselves to forge ahead with the renaming of the town after our icon, whose birthday is today.”
