Future SA held a press briefing following the recall of President Jacob Zuma by the African National Congress’ (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday afternoon.

Future SA’s Mandla Nkofe says there is nothing wrong with the call by opposition parties for early elections.

“It is a legitimate call to make in these circumstances. However we believe that our demands can form a national, non-partisan programme of action to attend to South Africa’s immediate crisis.

“Early elections are not a priority of civil society at this stage”, says Nkofe.

Future SA says when President Zuma leaves, he must take some of his ministers with him.

“We demand the immediate removal of all cabinet members who have been directly implicated in the state capture project, in particular Malusi Gigaba, David Mahlobo, Mosebenzi Zwane, Lynne Brown and Ben Martins,” says Nkofe.

Future South Africa believes goverment will only be able to function effectively once those ministers leave their portfolios.

Opposition parties have called for Parliament to be dissolved so that early elections could be held.
