"Temba police have arrested a 23-year-old man for violating the grave of his alleged mother who was buried in 2010, and removing certain body parts on Thursday night at Moeka Msholozi section, north Temba," said Captain Kabelo Marumo in a statement.
"During the arrest body parts (bones and hair) were seized at the suspect's house and taken to the forensic laboratory for examination."
Police were in the process of obtaining legal documents for permission to exhume the body to confirm the grave belonged to his mother.
"The suspect was arrested soon after police received information from his friend who allegedly witnessed the incident."
The man will appear in the Garankuwa Magistrate's Court on Monday.
