Personal protective equipment (PPE), including latex gloves and face masks, were found floating in a river which passes through Irene in Centurion.

Acting MEC for Health Jacob Mamabolo visited the site on Sunday.

The department’s spokesperson Kwara Kekana has described the dumping of the gear as uncalled for.

“It is unfortunate that someone/people would discard PPE during a global pandemic and additionally pollute the environment.

“The matter has been referred to relevant authorities for investigations.”
