Updated | By ANA
A Gauteng motorist was arrested after being caught driving at 221km/h on the N1 near Ventersburg in the Free State on Friday night, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said.
“Traffic officers followed the speeding vehicle for 830 metres before it was brought to a stop. The driver was taken to the Ventersburg police station where he was officially charged. This is the highest speed recorded this festive season,” RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane said on Saturday.
Another motorist was arrested for driving at 199km/h an hour on the R34 in Odendaalsrust, also in the Free State.
“Motorists are warned that speeding is a criminal offence and a major contributor in fatal road crashes. Traffic officers have been deployed in all major routes and alternative roads this festive season to enforce the rules of the road,” Zwane said. - ANA
