Gauteng once again shows most new daily Covid-19 infections

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 1 332 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours reporting cycle.
This brings the country’s total laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 582 691.
The latest increase represents a 7.8% positivity rate.
Gauteng has by far the majority of new cases, with 460 cases confirmed in the latest 24-hour period ending Monday evening.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (35%), followed by Western Cape (17%). Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 16%; Mpumalanga accounted for 9%; Free State, Limpopo and North West each accounted for 6% respectively; Eastern Cape accounted for 3%, and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases,” says the NICD in a statement.
The department reported 88 Covid-19 related deaths on Monday and of these, 14 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 94 265.
There has been an increase of 89 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 6 387 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 78 888 Covid-19 vaccines were administered on Monday.
