Gauteng online application system to go live on Friday

Online registration for Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils at public schools in Gauteng is set to go live on Friday morning.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi briefed the media on the registration process for the 2023 academic year at Jeppe High School in Johannesburg on Thursday.
He said the system will be live from 8am on Friday and run until 19 August.
“We have been calling for a paperless system, so that no one can be in position to say that I will queue at the beginning of the day or early in the morning. You also can’t just queue at more than one school.
“The online registration is a virtual queue by using the paperless system. It is easy and efficient, we have upgraded it every year and can take up to 40 000 people that can apply at a single time.”

Lesufi also urged parents of Grade R pupils to make use of the online system.
“All learners in Grade R at a school or ECD centre must be applied for using the GDE Online Admissions System to be accepted at a school for Grade 1 in the 2023 academic year.
“No Grade R learner will be automatically accepted into Grade 1 at any Gauteng public school without applying online.”
This year will see the implementation of a single application process, which will see both Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils apply at the same time.
