The Gauteng education department launched an online application process for all public schools in the province in April.

It warns those who do not register in time run the risk of having their child start the academic year late.

Department spokesperson Oupa Bodibe says late applications will only be considered after all learners who applied before the deadline have been offered placements.

"They must know their children could even start school in February," he says.

Nearly 700 000 applications have been received and processed since the online system launched.

Parents or guardians who do not have access to the internet are urged to visit their nearest school or district office for assistance.

Those who are still experiencing challenges with the online applications can contact the department's Call Centre on (011) 355 0000 or the toll free number on 0800 000 789.
