Gautrain services in Pretoria return to normal

Gautrain services between the Pretoria CBD and Hatfield have been restored after a week of disruptions due to a damaged catenary line, Gautrain said on Monday.

“We are pleased to advise that our technicians have restored power to the second track between Pretoria and Hatfield. A Gautrain train shuttle service was operated using both tracks over the weekend and as of this morning services will return to normal,” said spokesperson Kesagee Nayager.

Nayager said, however, the service would not be available during the weekend as technicians would be finalising the repair work.

The train line was damaged at Muckleneuk, Pretoria, when a cement truck fell from an overhead street and collided into a wall next to the tracks.

The driver of the truck was injured in the incident.

“We ask that our commuters please bear with us and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience this may cause. We will ensure that a Gautrain bus shuttle service is available to transport commuters between these two stations over the course of the weekend. We would also like to use this opportunity to thank our commuters for their patience and understanding,” added Nayager.
