Gautrain workers sign ‘above inflation’ wage agreement
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has signed a wage increase agreement with Bombela Operating Company.

Bombela Operating Company is an agency that runs the Gautrain.
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the union and the company have been in wage negotiations since April.
The workers will receive a 7% salary increase from 1 July.
“The proposed agreement entails a 7% across the board increase, and an increase in transport subsidy will double from R50 to R100 per shift worked. Night shift allowance to increase from R30 to R32 per hour. One-year agreement from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
“The increase in the transport allowance will definitely make a positive difference in the lives of members, given the rapid rise in transportation costs,” says Hlubi-Majola.
