Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A strike planned by members of the Ekurhuleni metro police, which was supposed to bring the Gillooly's Interchange to a complete shutdown on Thursday morning, has been suspended.
This was confirmed by the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), with the union saying it has received an invitation from Gauteng Premier David Makhura to discuss their grievances.

“To the extent that the highest office deems it fit to open the door to engage on the matters at hand, we deem it necessary to suspend the strike sine die subject to a proposed intervention," says Samwu regional secretary Vukile Mlungwana.
“Kindly be advised that the protected strike is suspended to allow space for engagements as stated supra, and that we reserve our right to embark in a strike on proviso that the above intervention yields no positive results."
