Give Nkandla reports time: ANC

The ANC's national executive committee is satisfied with the work being done on two reports on Nkandla, the party said on Monday.

"The NEC expressed its satisfaction with the work taken on the matter. It notes that there are processes that need to be given a chance," African National Congress secretary general Gwede Mantashe told reporters in Johannesburg.

He said President Jacob Zuma should be given time to respond to the report on the security upgrades done at his homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.

In her report titled "Secure in Comfort", Public Protector Thuli Madonsela found that Zuma had unduly benefited from improvements, including a cattle kraal and swimming pool, built with state money, and should refund a portion of the R246 million cost.

On Monday it was reported that Zuma told a crowd in Gugulethu he would not repay the money because he did not ask for the upgrades.

He placed the blame on government officials.

"They did this without telling me," he told ANN7.

"So why should I pay for something I did not ask for."
