The three children who were killed in Wednesday morning’s crash on the Golden Highway were siblings, the provincial education department has confirmed.
Twelve people were killed in the crash between a minibus taxi and a car on the R553 in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.

Mamabolo, who is the province’s Roads and Transport MEC, said it was the siblings’ first year at the school.
The driver of the taxi also died on Tuesday afternoon.

"They used a private vehicle as a means of transportation to school. This means the Avanza was carrying the three learners and the driver, they lost their lives in this accident," said Mamabolo.
The cause of crash has not yet been determined, but Mamabolo said preliminary investigations show the driver of the Avanza lost control of the vehicle.
"The information we have is that the Avanza collided with the minibus taxi. The driver of the minibus taxi also died in the accident. This will be a subject of an investigation.”
