Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says the government is set to purchase 400 000 additional water tanks to assist communities in the fight against Covid-19.
Sisulu told reporters in Pretoria on Saturday that 41 000 water tanks had already been purchased and will be distributed to provinces.
"We have procured 2342 water tanks for the Eastern Cape, 1700 for the Free State, 12 130 for Gauteng, 4274 for KZN, 1200 for Limpopo and we are still working on providing Mpumalanga and North West with 600.
"To cut the long process of procuring we went directly to the manufactures and there are 400 000 tanks in store that are available for us to procure."
