Chiloane briefed the media at Hoërskool Jeugland in Kempton Park on Tuesday.

He said 1394 pupils who remain without schools will also be placed.

"The department is continuing to place grade 1 and 8 learners who were applied for during the 2023 online admissions application period. Currently, there are applicants that remain unplaced, while some applicants who previously had incomplete applications continue to be placed."

Chiloane says they have received 4801 appeals to placements offered to parents.

He says parents who missed the deadline will have to abide with which ever placement given to their children.

"When you come, we will place your child where there is a space, mostly these are parents who may have missed the deadline but within the province and also in-migration from other provinces. Parents should know that we will place your child because we don't want anyone child to be out of school, but we will not place your child at your school of choice."

Most of the unplaced are in the Ekurhuleni north, Johannesburg West and Tshwane West districts.

The inland schools are set to re-open on Wednesday in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and the Free State.
