Police in Klerksdorp have arrested one suspect in connection with an armed robbery at Tshepong Hospital.
Four gunmen stormed into a boardroom at the facility where doctors were having a briefing and robbed them of cell phones, money and other valuables.
The robbers then left the hospital without physically harming anyone.
North West Health spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane said MEC Madoda Sambatha questioned the security company and demanded an explanation on how the suspects gained entrance with firearms.
"The security company indicated that all people who enter the hospital premises are checked but failed to explain how the men entered the facility with guns.
"One of the men was fortunately apprehended still within the hospital premises. The police were called, and he was arrested. Meanwhile a debriefing session was held with the affected doctors with a view to provide counselling services.
"Matlosana is known to be having a high rate of gangsterism and health facilities are often confronted with such incidents. For this reason, MEC Sambatha has called on the law enforcement agencies to help stamp out gangsterism in the area and ensure the safety of health facilities," added Lekgethwane.
