Gupta lawyer: The day I met Atul
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Gupta family's lawyer Gert van der Merwe has told JacarandaFM's Complimentary Breakfast about his experience working for the controversial family.
"I met Mr Ajay [Gupta] while doing work for one of the subsidiaries," says Van der Merwe.
Van der Merwe also revealed whether he has met President Jacob Zuma or any Cabinet ministers.
He says he has done work for president Jacob Zuma's son Duduzani - who has emerged as a central figure in the email leaks - believed to connect the dots between the family and their alleged influence on government officials.
Van der Merwe says the family is vastly different than the public perception.
"My experience is that they are people who are comfortable to work with. What they tell me happens and what I advise them the do. I've never been exposed myself and I can tell you that, as a fact, I've never been exposed to ill-doing. I've never been asked to do anything wrong," says Van der Merwe.

Van Der Merwe says his employers support a judicial inquiry into allegations that they are involved in state capture.
"Everybody will have an opportunity to read through everything, prepare, get witnesses and eventually not a trial by media, but a trial by a retired judge."
