Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The elderly in Meadowlands and Eldorado Park in Gauteng will be more fit in future.
The Gauteng Department of Social Development opened two new gym facilities for the aged on Saturday.
Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza says the initiative has already proven to be successful in other areas in the province.
"Older people would suffer from hypertension and arthritis because of being inactive," she says.
Resident Theresa Mokgethi says: "We have been using the equipment and are very excited."
Meadowlands Care for the Aged's Simon Masekwameng welcomes the new facility.
"We have many people who suffer from various ailments. The equipment will help them live a healthy and active life."
