Hailstorm warning as rainy weather continues into Tuesday
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Rainy summer days have returned with Gauteng residents bracing for hailstorms on Monday.
“There are some hailstorms in southern Gauteng, Mogale City, City of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, there have been some storms that passed through with some hail in them, but I can’t confirm the size of the hail at this stage but it should be small hail,” says South African Weather Service forecaster Luthando Masimini.

Masimini says the storms are expected to move north of Gauteng.
“This afternoon thunderstorms are already happening; we are expecting it to extend to northern Gauteng which is Pretoria all the way to Hammanskraal but still isolated at this stage and may have hail.”
Residents can expect a bit of reprieve overnight into Tuesday morning, however Masimini warns that the storms will return by Tuesday afternoon.
“We can once again expect thunderstorms tomorrow from the afternoon, looks like a similar scenario as today, starting off in the south of Gauteng extending to the northern parts in the late afternoon into the evening."
