Hammanskraal water tankers not the source of cholera outbreak - Tshwane

The City of Tshwane says the water provided to Hammanskraal through tankers has been declared cholera free.

At least 21 people have died of cholera in Hammanskraal.
The city is yet to confirm the actual source of contamination.
In a statement, the city says tests conducted confirmed that it does not contain cholera.
On Monday, the city conducted sampling testing of water from multiple sources including reservoirs, fire hydrants, primary schools, clinics, and other locations that receive water from the Temba Water Treatment Plant and declared the water safe from cholera.
Spokesperson, Selby Bokaba urged residents not to buy or drink water from untested tankers.
"The City of Tshwane has received disturbing news from community members alleging that there are roaming water tankers selling water to residents in Hammanskraal.
“Communities are cautioned not to buy or drink water from these tankers as it is untested and not declared safe for drinking," says Bokaba.
He reiterated that the city provides drinkable water to its communities in formal and informal areas in Hammanskraal – free of charge.
He added that officials from the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) have been activated to do a stop-and-search of any trucks transporting water without a valid permit.
