This as the cholera outbreak in Gauteng and Free State death toll climbed to 22.

The Minister was speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Friday.

Mchunu says an agreement will be announced next week to outline more detailed solutions for the water challenges affecting the people of Hammanskraal.

"In principle, a document was presented and it was agreed on - all we have to do is to just find the identified departments to comment on the agreement. But I know that a milestone agreement has been reached by the our Department and The City of Tshwane," he said.

"Next week we will announce who will do what, and where will we source funding, because this requires quite a lot of money. Next week will also announce the timeframe, because timeframe is unavoidable." Mchunu said

"At a technical level discussion have started with Treasury, and we hope that by next week we would have concluded."

Tshwane Mayor, Cilliers Brink said that their priority is to get the Rooiwal plant upgraded and provide clean water to residents.

"Our meeting and proposal are the plans to fund the upgrade of the Rooiwal Plant within a specific period of time, and that would finally be a break - fix Rooiwal, clean the water, get the funding and work together,” he said.

"The essence of the bad water in Hammanskraal is the state of the Rooiwal Wastewater Works Treatment Plant - it has been out of capacity for a long period. Far, far back there has been a failure to upgrade that plant and failure to come together."
