Hawks arrest three of their own

Three Hawks members were arrested in Pretoria on Friday morning for alleged corruption, extortion, intimidation and defeating the ends of justice.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says the trio - aged between 49 and 55 - attempted to extort money from a businessman.
"[They are] Accused of demanding money from a businessman in Johannesburg, Midrand, so of course this matter was reported to us. There was an investigation that was conducted,"adds Mulaudzi.

He says it was found that the trio had threatened to report the businessman to authorities for being in possession of invalid documents and to stay and conduct any business in South Africa.
An internal process will proceed once the report has been finalised.
The suspects will appear at the Randburg Magistrates court on Friday.
