Hawks confirms probe into Busisiwe Mkhwebane
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Hawks are adding to the myriad of woes facing Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane with the elite crime-fighting unit probing criminal charges laid against her.
The investigation comes after a charge was laid by Accountability Now director Paul Hoffman at the Ocean View Police station in Cape Town on Monday.
It’s reported that Hoffman submitted an affidavit to the police, recommending that charges of perjury and defeating the ends of justice be brought against her.

Speaking to media shortly after the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya confirmed an investigation is underway.
He refused to divulge the details of the investigation.
The complaint by Hoffman follows a scathing Constitutional Court judgment, handed down two weeks ago, which found that Mkhwebane was dishonest and had to be personally liable for 15% of the Absa/Bankorp costs.
The highest court in the land found that she “told untruths” and acted in bad faith.
A fund has been set up for Mkhwebane by her supporters to contribute towards the R900 000 she has to pay in legal fees.
