Hawks nab Gauteng ‘company director’ for tax fraud
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Hawks have arrested a man for allegedly submitting false documents to the South African Revenue Service during the 2016 tax period.
The 50-year-old also lied about being the director of a reputable company based in Johannesburg.
“The vigilance of SARS officials detected some inconsistencies that would have caused a loss of R8.6 million had it not been uncovered. A case docket was opened and handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Germiston for further handling,” said Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase.
Nkwalase says the suspect is expected back in court next month.
“He is expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 20 June on charges of fraud and contravention of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.”
