Hawks nab suspect for Wolmaransstad cash-in-transit heist

The Hawks in North West have arrested a 29-year-old suspect following a cash-in-transit robbery in Wolmaransstad.

A gang of armed suspects hit a cash van on the N12 between Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp on Thursday.


Khumo Maleshane was arrested in Potchefstroom soon after the heist.


Hawks spokesperson Tlangelani Rikhotso says he was found in possession of R60 000 cash.


"He was found in a vehicle that allegedly fitted the description of one of the vehicles at the crime scene. He was also allegedly found in possession of a bag with over R60 000. Both the vehicle and the money were seized for further investigation.


"The accused is facing charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, malicious damage to property and contravention of the Explosives Act."


Maleshane appeared in court on Monday. His case was postponed to 13 January for bail application.
