'He wanted to be a soccer player," says brother of stabbed teen


Hlompho Mbetse wanted to be a soccer player or get into information Technology Systems (IT) once he was done with school.

The 17-year-old grade 11 pupil from King Edward VII School had big dreams said his brother, Dali Sobantu outside the Alexandra Magistrate Court on Monday


That's before he was stabbed to death on Saturday at a club in Sandton. 


"It was his birthday weekend, his birthday was on Wednesday, they were out like normal kids, he was at Jozi Gin, then moved to Manhattan a club in Rivonia. I am not too sure what happened, I think the altercation started last year. These boys beat him up, I think 10 of them and took a video, my brother wouldn't let it go, naturally so," said Sobantu


His voice breaking, he added that he believes his brother was stabbed trying to get away and it happened outside the club. 


18-year-old Dante Liang appeared briefly in court; he is charged with Mbetse's murder.


The matter was postponed to February 14th for formal bail application. 


Sobantu, who was visibly struggling with his brother's death, said he was responsible for him as he lived with him, he said his parents and their entire family is not coping with his little's brother's death.


The school sent out condolences to Mbetse's friends and family on its Facebook page on Sunday.
