Hoedspruit on edge as tropical storm nears
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The tourist town of Hoedspruit in Limpopo fell victim to major flooding in 2012, a situation that could repeat itself this year.

Hoedspruit has experienced some of the worst flooding in recorded history with over 700mm - more than double the average rainfall - that fell within an 18 hour period back in 2012.
Over 200 households were severely affected with many losing absolutely everything.
The department of cooperative governance and traditional affairs says all systems are in place to manage any disaster.
"All radios and communication channels along with the local municipalities are out there raising awareness so that community members know what to do in case of any disaster," spokesperson Legadima Leso says.

He adds that they also have an evacuation plan in order, should the need arise to vacate people.
"The SA government has convened a national joint committee meeting to ensure that all our plans are in order as Dineo hits," he says.
Leso also adds that all the structures of government in each of the provinces that might be affected are ready to deal with any eventuality.
"There will be flooding, storms and winds - so we are urging members of the community to take precautions," he says.
